North Merchiston Cemetery, located on Ardmillan Terrace in Edinburgh, is one of the most unfortunate of all the cemeteries I have visited in Edinburgh. It lies quietly in a state of ruin and disrepair. A quick scan of the photos below will verify it’s current state dishevelment. The City of Edinburgh inspectors, who now manage this site, have seen fit to topple over many of the stones because they are deemed unsafe, unstable, and a danger to the public. Funds are not available to reset and resurrect the fallen stones. Many sacred memories and family histories lie shattered and divided in the soil that once honored their memories. Hopefully the day will come when this site will be reborn into it’s former glory.
